Foreign nationals also can receive Special Cash Payments - 外国人も特別定額給付金を受け取ることができます。

On April 20, 2020, Japanese government adopted "Special Cash Payments" as “Emergency Economic Measures to cope with COVID-19”.

The good news is that most of foreign nationals living in Japan also can have the right to receive this payments. Today, we'll show you the persons the applies to and how to receive it.

1. The persons the payments applies to

If you meet the following two requirements, you can apply for it.

1. Those who are registered with Basic Resident Registration System as of April 27, 2020.

2. Those who have valid residence card as of April 27, 2020.

2. The Expiration period for applications

The Expiration period for applications is decided by each municipality. Hence you have to check the announce by the municipality you live in.

<e.g.>Shibuya-ku, Tokyo : By August 25, 2020

Nagoya-shi, Aichi : By September 1, 2020

3. How to receive the payments

1. Fill in the application form that each municipality send to you by mail.

• Your name and date of birth are already printed.

• Fill in the other relevant information such as your account number.

• If you have families, fill in the faimily's relevant information, too. (The person who can receive the payments is a head of family)

2. Make copies of a"Identification" and a "Passbook or Cashcard".

• stick these copies on the back of the application form.

3.Send the filled application form to the municipality by mail.

• You can receive the payments on your bank account about 10 days later after sending.

4. Important notice

• If you have no bank account, you can receive the payments at the counter of city office. please bring the filled application form.

• However, it is NOT recommendable to go the city office in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Please wear the mask if you go there.

• There are some fraud related to Special cash payments. The municipalities NEVER ask you to use an ATM or request some service charge.

• If you have the My Number Card, you can apply for online.
